EN—The exhibition “Among Them” deals with the relationship of the subject to his or her immediate, (supposedly) self-chosen environment – a theme that was often taken up in existential literature.

The works, selected by Chantal Kaufmann, spin narratives aside from written language; narratives around fantastic phenomena that occur in our everyday. In this way, the various points of view of the individual works come together to form a kind of interior in which situations and atmospheres are hinted at and interlace into an enigmatic and mysterious narrative that appears as if in a common dream in the life between individual subjects. In the space, therefore, notions and ideas about the relationship between a 'subject' and the 'world' or about categories such as 'inside' and 'outside' are made visible, as well as how these can have an ambiguous and ambivalent effect on subjects.

And yet, the title "Among Them" suggests that the names that appear in the exhibition do not yet include all the protagonists that make up such a narrative.

DE—Das vor allem in der existentialistischen Literatur oft aufgegriffene Verhältnis des Subjekts zu seiner direkten, von ihm (vermeintlich) selbst gewählten Umgebung dient als Ausgangspunkt für die Ausstellung «Among Them». 

Die von Chantal Kaufmann ausgewählten Arbeiten erweitern die Erzählung von fantastischen Phänomenen in alltäglichen Ereignissen mit Sprachen ausserhalb des Textes. So bilden die Perspektiven der einzelnen Arbeiten als Gemeinsames ein Interieur, in dem sich Spuren von Situationen und Atmosphären zu einer rätselhaften und geheimnisvollen Narration verweben lassen und als Kollektivtraum im Leben eines Subjektes erscheinen können. Im Raum verbinden sich also Vorstellungen und Ideen zu dem Verhältnis von ‹Subjekt› und ‹Welt› oder zu Kategorien wie ‹Innen› und ‹Aussen› und machen sichtbar, wie diese vieldeutig und ambivalent auf Subjekte wirken können.

Dabei lässt der Titel «Among Them» erahnen, dass mit den erscheinenden Namen noch nicht alle der Protagonist*innen genannt sind, die eine solche Erzählung ausmachen.
